About Charutar Arogya Mandal

Charutar Arogya Mandal is a venture of faith established in the year 1972, by the former home and finance minister of India, a native of Dharmaj, Late. Dr. H M Patel. An astute ICS officer, Dr. Patel, with a number of academic institutions named honouring him, had the vision to create an evolving healthcare system in Charotar that would not only offer the best medical services to the rural counterparts in the most dignified way but also create resources to sustain the mission of service. ‘Solace for the suffering’, is what he envisioned, and built an organization that evolved as much in services, as in faith.

Mandal, with a humble beginning of 130-bed hospital and a nursing school, has today grown to become an accredited 1000-bed multi-specialty healthcare facility with a medical college, a physiotherapy institute, a school and a college of nursing, institutes of laboratory technology and allied health sciences, and a centre of public health. The hospital also has dedicated, modern centres of care for Cancer, Cardiac, Bone Marrow Transplant, Diagnostics and Critical Care.

Shree Krishna Hospital – the pillar that extends modern healthcare to the needy!

image

The Shree Krishna Hospital is a beacon of hope for millions of patients who have walked through its door in the hope to receive the best and modern medical care, whether they have the capability to pay for the expenses or not. The hospital has more than 5 lakh patients treated in its OPD services and over 65000 who receive ward care, on an annual basis. Importantly, a policy of not denying treatment to any patient, just for the want of money is followed by the hospital.

To extend quality healthcare to the non-affording patients, the Hospital has various welfare schemes in place that route the support in a systematized manner, after due assessments. The hospital has allocated 650 beds for poor and indigent patients. Those who fall under the category, of socioeconomic parameters, get highly subsidized diagnosis and pharmacy facilities, free beds, and hospital stays. There are empanelments with external agencies that offer cashless treatment to eligible patients but with an upper bracket of sponsorship.

The remaining amount of treatment expenses are borne by the hospital. And those needy patients who do not fall into any categories or scheme, are offered discretionary concessions to support their treatment. Hospital incurs massive deficits following the mission of supporting the needy for their treatment and expenses. On average, every year the hospital incurs a deficit of an average INR 55 crores while sponsoring subsidized medical care. And this figure remains steadily increasing every year.

For whom is the support intended?

The Hospital receives a number of complicated cases, from nearby health facilities not just from Anand and Kheda districts but from the neighboring states as well.

These patients come to us with a lot of hopes and aspirations. Neonates, expecting mothers in critical condition, road accident victims, elderly patients, snake bite cases, cancer cases, an increasing number of patients with cardiac problems and stroke, etc.

The financial vulnerability of these patients underscores the role of Mandal. The financial burden arising out of the treatment expenses leaves them with two choices, either pay for it by incurring massive debts or forego treatment. Charutar Arogya Mandal plays a crucial role by providing them with the best & modern medical care, and support for the treatment expenses.

And, for the last 50 years, Mandal has been able to do exemplary work for the underprivileged, because of a strong network of a band of donors who have trusted us, shared the intent to help needy patients with their treatment, and to build resources for care.
